BET Hip Hop Awards 2014 Recap

Happy Hump Day Luvs! I hope everyone is off to a fantastic start to this Wonderful Wednesday. Today I'd just like to take a moment and talk about last night's BET Hip Hop Awards 2014. Before I get started I just want to say that for years BET has received a bad rap for their award shows and I just want to shout from the rooftops, Have you Seen the Other Award shows Lately?? Last night I sat in my room proud as hell and it was because of what was being showcased by BET and the Hip Hop Awards!

One of the first things I noticed was the fashion worn by todays young men and I have 2 things to say on that. The first thing is I will no longer fuss at my son when he just wants to wear his gym shorts and a tshirt to school daily cause obviously if he was influenced by others in the all new Hip Hop community things really could be worst. And the second thing is after I got over the initaial shock or what some of the performers were wearing I was happy to see the display of fashion. It was a long ways away from the baggy jeans and tshirts and I now feel like men's fashion is headed into more of a Jimmy Hendrix direction  and I look forward to seeing more of it. I think its time we allow men to be more expressive with what they wear and if last night was any indication, Get Ready!

The other thing that made me proud when watching the awards was the level of social respect and consciousness that was displayed by the performers, the host, the audience and participants. Every time I heard the mention of  Mike Brown's name I thought of social injustice and how Hip Hop brought this issue to the forefront last night. The moment of silence, the inspiring speech from pioneer Doug E Fresh to the introduction of Mike Brown's parents was simply amazing! Bravo BET!

Uncle Snoop Dog did a pretty good job as a first time host and I think what I liked best was seeing him dance and enjoy himself with the other performers. I mean if no one else had a good time, Snoop damn sure did! That's the way you earn a check in the land of the Frugal Flirty N Fab! The skits with my friend in my head Nia Long were hilarious! I am a sucker for curse words so hearing Nia belt them out was simply everything!

Overall the performances were great, the host was fabulous, the Hip Hop was intriguing and  made the 2014 BET Hip Hop Awards a Win Win in my book! Did you watch the awards? What were your favorite performances? What were your thoughts on the Hip Hop fashions? Share with the Frugal Flirty N Fab in the comments! Thanks and as always let's make it a Great One FABulites!
