Essence Festival 2018 Gave me my Whole Life!

*Frugal Flirty N Fab Guest post Contributor Monique Dillard*

Essence Festival 2018 gave me my whole life!!! This years Essence Fest displayed UNITY & empowerment at its finest. So much strength, so much beauty and I felt a sense of sisterhood displayed during this entire weekend from the Convention Center straight to the Super Dome.
Highlights include booths such as “My Black is Beautiful” booth which has proven to be one of the crowds biggest hits. Crowds and crowds of fans all rushed into the convention center doors heading straight for the My Black is Beautiful booth for all of their free goodies including the infamous My Black is Beautiful tee-shirt. Another crowd fav was Walmart which gave out crowns (which women and men of all ages rocked all weekend long) along with the NOLA bags from Ford.
This year brought out so many people- certainly more than last year. Everywhere you looked you could find groups of women joined together rocking “Girls Trip tees (Perhaps the movie Girls Trip had something to with the crowds this year :).

The crowd went crazy when the cast of Power came out. Remi Ma and Meek Mill teamed up to discuss prison reform and their testimonies are insane.

Dougie Fresh, yo-yo, Roxanne Chianti, graced the WALMART stage and schooled the younger generations about the start of Hip-Hop etc and the entire Gospel tribute was simply the bomb.
The performances at both the Convention Center and the Super Dome were beyond amazing! The night began with Exscape, them ladies still got it!

Mary J Blige (who killed it as usual but you can tell she’s over all of the Ex husband garbage- good for you Mary), Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah performed solo then brought out Brandy, MC Lyte, for the “I wanna be down” remix (EPIC).

On Sunday night when you’d think many visitors have returned home to their normal lives the stadium was super packed as Teddy Riley performed with the New Jack Swing curation which included amazing artists such as SWV, Aron Hall, Dave Hollister, Black Street and more.

The beautiful and talented Janet Jackson closed out the concert!

There was one concession booth “POPOS” from my home town (Miami) that I had to support just because and in addition I can’t purchase Conch salad, Conch Fritters etc where I currently live. When I tell you this food is included in one of my WOW moments it was excellent. Don’t tell my Mom but  they have her beat. So Great job in the kitchen POPOS. There were so many Wow moments, huge crowds, tons of knowledge, overload of beautiful people being united, great food and entertainment. All in all Essence Fest 2018 was lit/amazing... I can’t wait to experience what Essence 2019 will be like as it just keeps on exceeding the expectations.

Will you be attending Essence Festival 2019?
